Who We Are
Quinn Chapel Anvils is more than just basketball. Our program is an outreach ministry affiliated with the Quinn Chapel AME Church in Louisville and it’s pastor Dr. Pedro Basden.
Chris Morris is the Head Coach and leader of the Anvils. This program is specifically designed for mentoring, assisting, providing guidance and tutoring young kids from primarily the west end of Louisville. We concentrate on three areas:
- Basketball development for educational opportunities
- College preparation and tutoring
- Mentoring and networking for a successful post-graduate career.
With basketball, we teach skills to help our youth excel in order to achieve college scholarships. We also provide exposure to NCAA Division 1 and Division 2 programs by participating in high-profile tournaments at various venues around the country, and utilizing relationships we have built over the last fifteen years.
To further enhance our kids, we also provide tutoring, with the goal of improving scores on the ACT college entrance exam. We are always mentoring the youth, by being positive role models and coaching them on and off the court.
In addition, we conduct quarterly field trips to businesses in Louisville, and occasionally businesses in the cities where our tournaments are held. This exposes them to career choices and opportunities they are unlikely to experience through the course of their normal routine. This is an area of particular interest to Dr. Basden as he did his doctoral dissertation on youth economic empowerment.
